same problem here :

I use the same imap server (courier-imap from sid)
I test with kmail 3.2.2 from debian sid and kmail 3.2.1 from suse 9.1 : same
problem.
No problem with mutt and mozilla-thunderbird.
The problem occurs randomly and very often.
I use /etc/passwd for authentification (no ldap, mysql or other)
I don't use ssl.

I join the ethereal log : this is just the part of the log when I get the
error.
