Deleting images from disk is a _very_ common action thanks to the invention of the digital camera, because there is no additional cost to take 10 pictures of the same thing, and choose only the best one after that. This action can be done only in your image viewer, because it's mostly the first time you review all your new pictures. So a conscient action from the user plus a confirmation dialog (explicit, while the default is unsafe) is a good compromise between being safe and not having too much pain to erase all those bad pictures.
