How high can you set the i variable to before the responsiveness 
becomes unacceptable?

There's a responsiveness (how quickly KMail responds to user input 
like clicking stop) and speed (how quickly the program finishes the 
search) trade off.

Perhaps we can agree to compromise on a value in between 1 and 100 and 
an option will be unnecessary. How high can you set the i variable 
before the responsiveness becomes unacceptable?
