Can you try to save the picture on clicking the context menu of the picture? I am \
curious to know if it would work.

As for remote protocols, it should work, but perhaps fish: is different than floppy: 

Another test, which you can do, is to unzip the KWord file and look in the pictures/ \
subdirectory. Is the picture there or not?
