In smart mode KMail honors the value of the Content-Disposition header:

- If an attachment is marked as attachment (i.e. it has the header \
Content-Disposition: attachment;) then it's displayed as icon.

- If an attachment is marked as inline (i.e. it has the header
Content-Disposition: inline;) then it's shown inline.

The sender of a message can suggest attachments to be shown inline by changing the \
attachment properties. It would probably make sense to let the default for the \
Content-Disposition (which currently is "attachment" for all kinds of attachments) be \
chosen according to the mime type of the attachment, i.e. for text attachments the \
default would be inline.


The other view modes (As Icon, Inline and Hide) can be used to override the value of \
the Content-Disposition header. Since the user can use the Inline mode if the Smart \
mode doesn't suit his needs I see no problem.
