My Linux laptop has options to update favicons in the bookmark editor when it is \
connected directly to the internet. These disappear when the laptop is not connected. \
This is very sensible. However my Solaris box which is connected through a proxy \
server never has these options. It could of course be a Solaris specific problem, but \
my suspicion is that whatever is deciding if a connection can be made is not using \
the proxy settings.
