I've just been trawling the archives to try and resolve a very similar problem.  I relaise that  
this thread has been around for a few months, but cannot find a resolution.  
  
I have just upgraded from Suse8.0 to Suse Desktop Linux and seems as though this  
included and upgrade to KDE and thus Kmail (1.5.1).  I don't know what version I was using  
before.  
  
Since the upgrade, I am getting very similar symptoms - also noticing that folders that are  
held in mbox format seem fine, but those maildir format are showing "Unknown" "No  
Subject" and a message size of zero.  
  
No idea why some are in maildir format anyway - could it be something to do with having  
been imported?
