Summary: Kivio needs a stencil set for Entity Relationship
Diagrams
Product: kivio
Version: 1.0
Platform: SuSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: psn@linux.se
ReportedBy: kalle@kde.org
Version: 1.0 (using KDE KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc 3.3
OS: Linux
Editing UML with kivio is cool (and somewhat more intuitive than in Umbrello, which on the \
other hand is more powerful), but what I am lacking is a stencil set for Entity Relationship \
diagrams for database design. In the most basic form, the following would suffice:
- one stencil for entities (a rectangle); it should be possible to add attributes that are \
displayed in the stencil (some types of ERDs also use "bubbles" to display the attributes; I \
find that somewhat non-intuitive)
- a labelled connector that has predefined (1, m, n) labels at the ends and a custom label \
alongside it
If you want to display the design of normalized databases, you would also need pseudo-entities \
that only exist in order to implement n:m relationships; a diamond is usually used for these.
