It's not possible to close and open the mixer all the time. KMix polls for
volume changes as long as it is opened. Even if I would ignore this fact and
close the mixer device after a timeout (e.g. 3 secs), you could still do
Software-Suspend exactly at the time while KMix polls.

While I clearly understand your problem and have some sympathy regarding your
wish, I fear it will not be done in KMix. Please understand my position here:
It's really MUCH work in KMix and will put a lot of bloat in the code - code
that would only be there due to non-ACPI-compliant drivers.

And besides: ACPI on Linux2.4.18 is not mature. The real solution are
ACPI-compliant drivers. With clean drivers you don't need to unload them.

Sorry for disappointing you, but as a temporary solution you should use a script
that kills kmix before doing Software-Suspend.
