Packaging bug (SuSE IIRC? I think it was fixed in later packages, too. If not, mail adrian@suse.de).

Go to the "File types association" module, and remove *.doc from the list of
extensions for this mimetype - or delete the entire mimetype.
Note that KOffice knows about application/msword, NOT application/x-msword.
