I do have XFree86 4.2.0 with RENDER present, libXft.so.1 is also present, but I
don't know how to check whether Qt is configured to use it(KDE does display
antialiased fonts and these fonts also appear as "Frank Ruehl [Xft]" in font
select combo box, etc). Besides - regarding my note

it seems unreasonable that selecting and deselecting a word would result in such
change of behavior. In general, any action that causes KWord to reformat and
redraw the paragraph (for example, clicking "align to left", and "align to
right" again), fixes the situation till the next opening of file.
