Indeed kooka handles bw images internally with 8 bit color depth. That is not really \
a bug since this will speed up scale to gray algorithms if the image is scaled. That \
makes it more readable on the screen. Anyway, Kooka should have an option to work \
with 1bit depth in order to save memory.  For the filesize: it is not possible to \
estimate the file size reliable since the file compression algorithms depend on the \
kind of image very much. You do not know the file size before the image was really \
saved unfortunately.  The thing in the preview panel just should point people to the \
problem that selecting a large area on the preview and scan it with high reso leads \
to really big images. I fear that most people do not realise that.
