This crash was most likely caused by a corrupted index file. I just used 
"Mark All Message as Read" to mark 8380 of 17044 messages in a 86 MB 
folder as read. As expected KMail didn't crash.
As you can't provide a backtrace nor reproduce the crash I close this 
bug report.
