i've a same/similar problem
but i found out what it caused
when i send the "<" char everything after it gets cut
so a outgoing messages like "this is a <test" get turned into "this ist a "
after i send a "<" char once also _all_ incoming messages are empty
until i send a ">" char
are u using some kind of html for the messages?

i hope this helps to fix the bug
i'm using the cvs version and i've tested it only with icq
