The floppy:/ url uses the mtools package to access the floppy -- this has 
nothing to do with mounting. You never need to mount or unmount a floppy with 
that.

Did you mount /mnt/floppy yourself? In that case, mtools are unable to work 
anymore (you can't mount it AND access it via mtools at the same time).

Can you try mtools in a terminal, i.e. enter 

mdir a:
mcopy a:/somefilename /tmp

and have a look if everything works ok?
