We only check if the index file is older than the corresponding mailbox
file. In general the index file will always be slightly newer than the
corresponding mailbox file. If you now restore a mailbox file from a
backup without also restoring the corresponding index file then the
index file will be newer than the restored mailbox file and therefore
KMail doesn't think that there might be a problem.
Because of this you should always backup the mailbox files together with
all corresponding .*.index* files.
