KNewsTicker already uses just one single Konqueror instance (but that 
instance provides multiple windows) - if you configured your KDE that way.

Try opening the KDE Control Center and then browse via File Browsing -> File 
Manager to the file manager configuration dialog. There's a box at the bottom 
of the first tab page where you can select Konqueror's memory allocation 
strategies. Try selecting the "Always" option (dunno whether that's what it's 
called in the english translation, I use a german KDE desktop ;-). You might 
also want to read the help file for what the other options do.

Selecting that entry should make KNewsTicker use only one Konqueror process, 
and tell that process (via DCOP) to open a new window everytime you select an 
article.
