Subject: Bug#35323: Send mail operation fails due to the format of the contents of the To: field
From: gfn () e-gfn ! de
Date: 2001-11-24 22:47:29
[Download RAW message or body]
Package: kmail
Version: 1.3.1 (using KDE 2.2.1 )
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: 2.4.10-4GB #1
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: 1
When replying to an e-mail (using the "Reply" button), KDE Mail aborts the send \
operation with the following error message:
"Sending failed:
an SMTP error occurred.
Command RCPT
Response: 550<Peter) is not a valid recipient"
...
Note other messages will be blocked by this message, as long as it is in the outbox \
folder"
The actual contents of the To: field in the KDE Mail window were:
"pschmatz@star.com (Schmatz, Peter)"
To reproduce: enter an e-mail address in the "To" field with the name string in \
brackets afterwards (a la Microsoft).
The same error occurs if I paste the same address into a send-new (rather than \
reply-to-existing) mail window.
The send is successful if I take out the (Schmatz, Peter) part. However, this is \
standard Bill Gates address-book format and KMail should really be able to cope with \
such a simple matter.
Keep up the good work!

manually changed)
