So, what should we rename: next previous These exist in some of the icon themes in KDEArtWork (CrystalSVG, , Tango, and GNOME themes! I must rename them something. I would like your input on this. IIUC, I have agreed that: view-next view-previous are not satisfactory, and we have agreed that they should be named: go-next- go-previous- because they are not related to other icons in the "view" tree. and the only issue is what "" should be. Your thinking seems to be that you are starting with square one with Oxygen and therefore question if we should have these icons. This isn't going to work -- history exists and backward compatibility is needed. These icons have existed since at least KDE2 -- they were in the old HiColor theme when it was renamed to KDEClassic. My suggestions for "" are: view document I would be glad to hear other suggestions from other artists. Since these are to be the icon names for the KDE Standard Actions: DocumentBack DocumentForward perhaps, "document" is the best choice. NOTE: that it is not relevant if Oxygen isn't going to have these icons since they will fallback to: go-next go-previous -- JRT [ -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [kde-artists] Missing Oxygen icons (for Okular) Date: Mon, 12 May 2008 16:41:07 -0700 From: James Richard Tyrer To: Jakob Petsovits CC: kde-artists@kde.org References: <48278686.9090207@acm.org> <200805122318.09431.jpetso@gmx.at> Jakob Petsovits wrote: > On Monday, 12. Actually, that is not the proposed use. They _should_ be the icons for the the Standard Actions: DocumentBack DocumentForward So, yes we need a suitable word for the third level branching. I don't see "view" as being the best choice, but it does appear to be an acceptable one. > b) There are already two sets of arrow icons in KDE: arrow-* and go-*. > The former are of course a misnomer, but I didn't manage to sort that out in > time for the 4.0 release. I thought that they were deprecated and going to be replaced with specifically named icons such as the "media-*" icons. > With go-next-[whatever] for "order navigation", KDE would have three different > sets of arrow icons. Is that feasible or even a reasonable thing to do? I think that you will find that this is the case with version 2 of KDE and is certainly the case with KDE 3. > Should we expect 3rd party themers to come up with a three different ideas > of arrows, for three different purposes? Artists, what do you think? I think that we should expect that some 3rd party themes will not contain them. This limits the possible names to names that will fallback to "go-next" & "go-previous"" icons. Which is why I suggested: go-next-view go-previous-view I also note that in KDE3 they ("previous" & "next") were also used for the Standard Actions "FindPrev" & "FindNext" for which KDE4 is using: "go-up-search" "go-down-search". -- JRT ______________________________________________________________________________ kde-artists@kde.org | https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-artists ______________________________________________________________________________ kde-artists@kde.org | https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-artists
