Sense this (1 & 3) involves moving around a bunch of images I wanted to get 
some feedback from the kde-artists list.

The directory name is a bit speaking. How about menu/ and then subdirs
for icons and desktop?

Sounds good.

I suggest you talk to kde-artists here. They are supposed to find things you
hide from them. I would suggest put them in workspace/kappfinder/app-icons,
but as I said: I don't have to find them - the artists (coordinators) have
 to.
