kSirc A script-able X IRC client. I am pleased to announce kSirc's first public beta release is now available from http://www.ksirc.org. * Why kSirc? There's already a lot of good irc clients, so why write another one? Before KSirc, X lacked a flexible and script-able irc client. While "xterm -e irc" works well, it doesn't take advantage of a graphical environment. On the other hand, most X irc clients focus on the graphical part and never really develop the scripting side very well. kSirc tries to solve these two problems. It uses sirc and as such provides VERY powerful Perl scripting while providing the X interface. * What are it's main features? - Perl scripting - Multiple server connections - Very powerful regex filter rules - mIrc colours (yeah, yeah) - Lots of GUI trinkets * What do you need to run it? kSirc is distributed in 2 forms, a static binary and source. To run the binary the only requirement is a working copy of Perl 5, you do not require KDE or any of it's libraries. Please read the binary install instructions! To compile the source additionally you'll need a working C++ compiler, Qt, and the KDE libraries. * Known bugs - In the binary release online help doesn't work. - No way to turn off colours, including ~ colours - Highlighting OPs doesn't appear, oops. This will get fixed quickly. - There's a BUGLIST file with other problems * Where do I get it? PLEASE USE A MIRROR! The "official" distribution ftp server can't handle more than a few ftp connections. * Mirrored on ftp://ftp.linpeople.org/pub/Software/IRC/Client/ ftp://sundog.v-wave.com/pub/ksirc/ ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/ (somewhere...) * Original site ftp://ftp.ksirc.org/pub/ksirc ================================================================================ +++ the KDE project mailing lists +++ kde-announce (Announcements) kde (general discussion) kde-devel (Development issues) kde-look (look and feel issues) kde-user (End User Discussion) kde-licensing (licensing issues) To subscribe (unsubscribe), send mail to [list]-request@fiwi02.wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de subscribe (unsubscribe) your-email-address in the subject line ================================================================================
