Agreed, this does hurt the eyes as well. Maybe this was too much transparency?
I just played with the current theme (well, not sure if it's still current as I
haven't been able to update for a week or so): I added a notes plasmoid,
switched the notes background to translucent and switched the activity
background to the darkest one and then to the noisiest one I could find (see
screenshots). Even there I could still read the text on the Plasmoid (at least
the title and first row of text, which seem to have a brighter background than
the rest). So maybe this opacity and color (maybe with a little tweaking) would
work for resource boxes as well? I don't know. But there is still a lot of room
between the current plain almost-completely-opaque grey and the almost complete
transparency in your screenshot.
I'm confident that we can find values which make text readable without looking
like a piece of grey.
Cheers,
Thomas
