I disabled USE_SYSLOG in the header and recompiled
the xdm package. Now I get debug output on the screen.

I think there is a problem with USE_VSYSLOG because
I can see that kdm opens /etc/.syslog_door many times
with O_RDONLY, but never writes output to the sylog
socket.

I go on with the SIG_SEGV problem now.
