I get the same message when running an X server on NT4.
DPMS (I think) is a video controller protocol that can't be
directly implemented on a remote system.
In my situation, though, kwm & kpanel run, but kaudioserver
doesn't. That makes sense, though, since X doesn't have an
audio protocol.
