Hi, this is really OT, but it seems of common interest, since a lot of new linux user are KDE user and start asking these questions here. Anyway this here might help you: - if you installed ALSA correctly, the file conf.modules or modules.conf should contain the following line: post-install snd alsactl restore near the ALSA configuration. This ensures that your saved sound config is restored when the modules are loaded. - if you can you can use sound-apps only as root, then the permissions for the sound devices are too restriced. Change it with a simple ( as root ): root> chmod o+rw /dev/dsp /dev/mixer The permissions should be: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root HTH, Willi > Hi, Patrick, > I know I am late, but maybe I can still help. However, I run "kmix", which > works perfectly with the alsa sound drivers, instead of the alsa mixer. > Channels are muted by default when I start the mixer, but later on they are > not remuted. Anaway, you might want to give it a try. > Best regards, > Andreas -- Send posts to: kde@lists.netcentral.net Send all commands to: kde-request@lists.netcentral.net Put your command in the SUBJECT of the message: "subscribe", "unsubscribe", "set digest on", or "set digest off" PLEASE READ THE ARCHIVED MESSAGES AT http://lists.kde.org/ BEFORE POSTING ********************************************************************** This list is from your pals at NetCentral
