If you say cracker, people > think food; if you say hacker, it sounds dangerous and exciting (IMO). All the lack of sleep does put me a in dangerous state of health.. and it's certainly exciting. ;-) For those of you who are seriously offended by the issue, go to www.jargon.org, read Appendix C and send a letter such as published there to the media. I did, and was surprised to get a nice reaction AND to read an article about breaking into computer systems the next week without the usage of the word hacker! Perhaps we'll have to make a nice educative game called Kracker to show the differences in a fun way. Might even be a cool game too.. one of those cheesy Larry alike adventures where you play a hacker. =) Rob -- Rob Kaper | cap@capsi.com cap@capsi.cx cap@atomickitten.cx cap@loves.lana.cx | http://capsi.com/ http://capsi.cx/ telnet://chat.capsi.cx:2300/ | "These are the people who proudly call themselves "hackers" -- | not as the term is now abused by journalists to mean a computer | criminal, but in its true and original sense of an enthusiast, | an artist, a tinkerer, a problem solver, an expert." -- ESR -- Send posts to: kde@lists.netcentral.net Send all commands to: kde-request@lists.netcentral.net Put your command in the SUBJECT of the message: "subscribe", "unsubscribe", "set digest on", or "set digest off" PLEASE READ THE ARCHIVED MESSAGES AT http://lists.kde.org/ BEFORE POSTING ********************************************************************** This list is from your pals at NetCentral
