Make sure you have entered the DNS information correctly in kppp setup. 
Without DNS configured your box will not be able to resolve a host name, e.g.
mail.somedomain.com into an actual IP address.
Your ISP will be able to tell you the DNS servers IP addresses if you don't know
them.
