I get an error message when running sound Mixer Panel'

Mixer failure
-------------
Kmix: Could not open mixer.
Perhaps you have no permission to access the mixer device.
Login as root and do a 'chmod a+rw /dev/mixer' to allow the access.

I do the command 'chmod a+rw /dev/mixer' and login as a root, but the
problem still occur.

I'm using Yamaha OPL3SAX Sound Card.

Could you please help me how to make my sound card work.
