I use true-type fonts in netscape and have not had any lockups yet. FYI
running RH6.0...kernel 2.2X.X and AMD K6-2 @300mhz with 96meg of PC100
SDRAM.

found a response to my question. As to why I run multiple Netscape's is
because I just always have alot of crap going on and don't have the time to
do just one thing. That is why I stick to LInux at home in the first place,
I can get twice the stuff done at the same time. Minor lockups aside.

what I have found out will help you.

Mandrake site. If I don't use True Type fonts as my default fonts for
Netscape (Edit menu -> preferences -> fonts) The problem still occurs but I
can surf for maybe 45 minutes in dual windows instead of 2-3 minutes. My
point then is that I believe yours (and my) problems stem from the
integrated font server in XFree86-3.3.3.1 that comes with Mandrake. I think
the font server is running out of resources and freezing things, or Netscape
(which has never played well with True Type fonts) has a problem with them.

anybody else out there know anything about the stability of this integrated
