change your fstab to /dev/hdc instead of /dev/cdrom
and change the device that the icon points to to /dev/hdc
as well and it'll work OK.

You might try removing the /dev/cdrom link and creating
a hard link with
ln /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom
and that might fix it as well!
