Because (IMHO) it works. Windows as operating system does not meet my needs,
but the ver few ocassions I do give Microsoft (or actually Apple or even
Xerox) credit for something is the GUI. It works.

Agreed, specific Gnome/KDE add-ons make it even better, and perhaps
something totally different might be better as well, but Linux in particular
has not always been innovative. The Linux kernel was modeled after Minix and
combined the best of many Unices and other operating systems, and the GNU
utilities set was -again- largely taken from Unices as well.

Furthermore, Gnome/KDE are not just iniatives for making a worthy GUI look
and feel for Linux/UNIX; they also have the goal to make Linux a happier OS
for users who are familiar with the Mac en Windows interfaces. Some people
might disagree with me here, but I simply can not believe that this is not
one of the motives behind both projects.

Grtz, Rob

PS: I'm interested in your revolutionair design.. why not put some
blueprints and specifications on-line? Perhaps Gnome/KDE will pick it up if
it's good, or maybe (yet another) desktop environment will emerge - if it's
better than others it will make it.
