yes, because their class library is not ported on efficiency basis. The
Linux port of Staroffice 3.x was a "can-do" thing, it wasn't for production
use. The developers did it in their free time, mostly, using Star divisions
developer tools though (company approved).

Then, when the suits decided it would be a real product, they took their
q'n'd hacks and based Staroffice on them, instead of writing clean from
scratch.

It is slow, right. But it is much much more modular than MS Office.
