Your basic point about shared memory is correct, and is probably even
a FAQ.  However, on my system I get the following:

kpm: SIZE=4020, RSS=4020, SHARE=2736 

making kpm about 1300KB in size.  Looking around I see that just about
all the basic KDE programs use between 1 and 2MB.  I'm using the
official RH5.x rpms.  I'm wondering if I should consider recompiling
myself.
