I have an even weirder effect nearly all the time I'm using
KDE now:

After having clicked several windows to focus the mouse
pointer doesn't return to its original form (pointing from
bottom right to top left) but stays in the menu selecting
shape (bottom left to top right). In this state almost
nothing can be clicked anymore, but one can get around this
by switching to another desktop using Ctrl-Tab. Back on
the original desktop everything works fine again.

PS: I observed this effect mainly using NEdit, dunno
if this is special to kwm...
