I use FreeBSD (2.2.2) and I patched it myself by adding "-lcompat" and then
kdeapps compiled
with no troubles at all...

What BSD flavour are you running ?
Are you using gmake-3.75 ? KDE does not like the BSD 'make', it will not
compile with it.
