I didn't manage to: when I customize with the default key, it
auto-selects the "default" radiobox instead of the custom one.

But other than activating compose:rwin I didn't customize the keyboard
layout at all, and even though I'm Italian I'm using the US layout
anyways, so that's not it either.

Ah, yes. I was hoping to avoid that, but it's time to roll up sleeves
and just do it.

Ah! It was the long-forgotten patch to use the media keys on my Apple
Aluminium keyboard! ... ... ... of course (hindsight FTW).

I hope that support gets imported upstream soon.

FWIW (I guess nobody else will be bitten by this bug),
