greetings, I've got a computer that looks ever so pretty with these:- ------cpu amd64 2 cores -------o/s cblfs linux 64-bit only pulse audio -0.9.21 ------gui kde-4.4.5 xorg7.5 It tells me (in sinage ) that it has all of these:- [ ~ ]# ls -l /dev/snd total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 80 Sep 4 22:27 by-path crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 10 Sep 4 22:27 controlC0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 12 Sep 4 22:27 controlC1 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 9 Sep 4 22:27 hwC0D0 crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 8 Sep 4 22:27 pcmC0D0c crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 7 Sep 4 22:27 pcmC0D0p crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 6 Sep 4 22:27 pcmC0D1c crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 5 Sep 4 22:27 pcmC0D1p crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 4 Sep 4 22:27 pcmC0D2c crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 11 Sep 4 22:27 pcmC1D0p crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 3 Sep 4 22:27 seq crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 2 Sep 4 22:27 timer [ ~ ]# ls -l /dev/mixer* crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 0 Sep 4 22:27 /dev/mixer crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 16 Sep 4 22:27 /dev/mixer1 linteg [ ~ ]# ls -l /dev/dsp* crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 3 Sep 4 22:27 /dev/dsp crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 19 Sep 4 22:27 /dev/dsp1 [ ~ ]# ls -l /dev/audio crw-rw---- 1 root audio 14, 4 Sep 4 22:27 /dev/audio [ ~ ]# but despite its pretty face and oodles of stuff for making sound, in KDE it is as dumb as a stone. It seems KDE 'deemeth' that my sound card is a 'dummy.'; which is quite strange as I disabled 'dummy' for alsa in the kernel compilation. Stranger still in that I can get sound on the command line prior to startkde with aplay and even in konsole. So a little advice would be appreciated ___________________________________________________ This message is from the kde mailing list. Account management: https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde.
