I've got a computer  that  looks ever so pretty  with  these:-

------gui kde-4.4.5 xorg7.5


It tells me (in sinage )  that it  has  all of these:-

but despite  its pretty face  and oodles of stuff for  making sound,  in KDE   
it is as dumb as a stone. 

It seems   KDE   'deemeth' that  my sound card is a 'dummy.';  which is quite 
strange as I disabled   'dummy' for alsa in the kernel compilation.  Stranger 
still in that I can get sound on the command line  prior to startkde with 
aplay  and even in  konsole.

So a little advice would be appreciated
