Hmm - I don't know of a KDE solution as such, but there are certainly linux 
solutions that can be used within KDE.  First, make sure you have sane and 
xsane packages - whatever your distribution offers.  Is your printer supported 
by  hplip?   You'll have to google for that.  If it is, it's well worth 
setting that up.  In the past, with xsane installed I was able to scan from 
with GIMP (File > Acquire).  I haven't tried it recently, but I assume that's 
still one possibility.
