Depends. Go to kcontrol->session manager

If the option under "On Logon" is set to "Restore manually saved session", 
you will have a option in kmenu that says "save session".

If the option if set to "Restore previous session" then there is nothing 
more to be done. log off when kmix is running and the next time you log in, 
it will come up.

If the option is set to "Start with an empty session", use one of the other 
two. This option wont satisfy your needs.
