You haven't actually said what happens when you try to change it in 
control-centre. Also on the sound setup page is a listbox where you can 
change the arts message level. Change that to "debug" first (and apply) as we 
are more likely to get a message.

Are you saying that even logged in as root setting the 'realtime' checkbox 
does nothing? Thats OK! Mine does nothing either....

It does actually... changes the scheduling priority to realtime and a value of 
about 50 (not to be confused with 'nice' priority) but no noticeable 
operational difference. You would probably only notice it on a real slow 
machine that couldn't handle your sound in realtime otherwise.
Try changing it in qps or something (tops perhaps? KPM wont change realtime 
prio)
