<p>Last week Stephen Binner revealed his <strong>"Evil Plan"</strong> for reorganizing Kmenu, \
and asked for input: <a \

I want to introduce a "More Applications/" sub-menu to the KOffice/ menu
which will contain the less important/mature KOffice applications:

Office/
  Office Suite (KOffice Workspace)
  Personal Information Manager (Kontact)
  --------------------------------------------------------
  Word Processing (KWord)
  Spreadsheets (KSpread)
  Slide Presentations (KPresenter)
  Address Manager (KAddressbook)
  Database Creator (Kexi)
  Flowchart & Diagram Editing (Kivio)
Painting and Image Edition Application (Krita)
  Personal Organizer (KOrganizer)
  More Applications/
    Chart (KChart)
    Form Designer (KFormDesigner)
    Formula Editor (KFormula)
    Related Words (KThesaurus)
    Report Generator (Kugar)
    Report Template (Kugar Designer)
    Scalable Graphics (Karbon 14)

And I plan to clean up the complete mess under the menu item "Utilities/" by
creating sub-categories like we have for "Edutainment/" and "Games/" already:

Form Designer (KFormDesigner) -> Office/More Applications
Link Checker (KLinkStatus) -> Internet/More Applications
Online Dictionary (KDict) -> Internet/More Applications

Utilities/
  Accessibility/
    Automatic Mouse Click (KMouseTool)
    Speech Synthesizer Frondend (KMouth)
    Text-to-Speech Frontend (KSayIt)
    Text-to-Speed Manager (kttsmgr)
  Desktop/
    Clipboard Tool (Klipper)
    Desktop Pager (KPager)
    Desktop Widgets (SuperKaramba)
    Popup Notes (KNotes)
    Scientific Calculator (KCalc)
    Useful Tips (KTip)
  File/
    Archiving Tool (Ark)
    Binary Editor (KHexEdit)
    PalmDOC Converter (KPalmDOC)
    Search & Replace Tool (KFileReplace)
  Misc/
    Character Selector (KCharSelect)
    Countdown Launcher (KTimer)
    Font Viewer (KFontView)
    Regular Expression Editor (KRegExpEditor)
  Peripherals/
    Fax Utility (Kdeprintfax)
    KDE LIRC Server (IRKick)
    Print Jobs (KJobViewer)
    Floppy Formater (KFloppy)
    Mobile Phone Tool (Kandy)
    PalmPilot Tool (KPilot)
  PIM/
    Encryption Tool (KGpg)
    Note Taker (KJots)
    Personal Alarm Scheduler (KAlarm)
    Personal Time Tracker (KArm)
    Signature Editor (KSig)
    Synchronization (MultiSynk)
    TNEF File Viewer (KTNef)

Any comments?

Bye,
   Steve

<p>Christian Loose noted that the Development section needed cleaning up, which led to the next \
plan: <a href="http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-devel&m=112403479608967&w=2">[2]</a></p> <p \

 - Move toplevel Toys/ into Games/

 - Move toplevel Editors/ into Utilities/

 - Within Development/ create two new sub-categories for

      Translation/
         Translation Tool Catalog Manager
         Translation Tool Dictionary
         Translation Tool (KBabel)
      Web Development/
         HTML Image Editor (KImageMapEditor)
         Link Checker (KLinkStatus)
         Web Development Environment (Quanta Plus)
         XSLT Debugger (KXSLDbg)

Leave the rest directly under Development/ for now.

<p>After some discussion and minor modification, Steve committed the changes, which will be \
enjoyed in the upcoming 3.5 release.

<p>Gilles Caulier announced digiKam and DigikamImagePlugins 0.8 final releases are out for your \
photograph management and correction pleasure.</p>

<p class="commitp">
The digiKam team is pleased to bring to you the next generation
of the user-friendly digital photo management software and its
image plugins. The primary focus for this release is new ways
of photo organization and searching. This release is the result of
4 months of development and we hope it will be as much fun for
you to use it as we had developing it.

  Notes to packagers :

- The tarballs of digiKam 0.7.x series became pretty big due to the detailed
documentation digiKam has. That is why we split the tarball into the main
application and a separate tarball for the documentation. 0.8.0 documentation
tarballs are not yet done and will be done later.

- ShowFoto program is independent of digiKam core. digiKam
is only require during ShowFoto compilation, but ShowFoto program has no
dependency on digiKam.

* NEW USER INTERFACE: Albums and Tags have been separated out into

view to show photos from single or multiple day(s) and week(s)
* SEARCHING: Two interfaces have been implemented for searching
  on photos:
  - QUICK SEARCH: a keyword based search which also allows
    date based lookups
  - ADVANCED SEARCH: build rules and groups of rules to do
    very precise searches.
  - LIVE FEEDBACK: Both searches show instant results based on
    the current search criteria
* SEARCH BASED VIRTUAL FOLDERS: The searches can be saved as
virtual folders and its possible to edit the search criterion
  later.
* TAG FILTERING: A new view has been added to the right side
which allows quick drag and drop tag assignments and also
filtering of photos in the current view. This view is again
  collapsible
* ALBUM LOCATION INDICATOR: When photos are shown from a virtual
folder (tag, date or search), the photos are grouped together
  based on album locations.
* MEMORY OPTIMIZATION: Thumbnails are now loaded on demand
and only a fixed cache of thumbnails is kept in memory
* NEW THEMES: Dark, Sandy and Orange Crush

<p>Raul Fernandes released the .2 version of his new program: KTranslator</p>
<p class="commitp">

  About KTranslator

KTranslator is a program to translate words from one language to another.

KTranslator should support any language (I hope that) and come with a plugin system, to ease \
the addition of new dictionaries.
The main idea behind KTranslator is to translate a word without disturb the application in \
use. So, when the user selects a word, KTranslator will try to translate the word and show the \
result in a popup window. It behaves like Babylon for Windows.
More information and links to dictionaries in <a \
href="http://ktranslator.sourceforge.net/">KTranslator homepage</a>. Several dictionaries and a \
ebuild for gentoo users are available.

  Features:

 Wizard to add dictionaries
The user can move the results window now
Add option to translate a given word in the MainWindow
 Better look for results window
Add support to links to other words in dictionaries
<p>
