Good point, the "without_maven" option would be unable to run the 
maven-install.  Does maven2-bootstrap provide it?  At least a previous 
maven2 version could be used (assuming every distro has a a previous 
version of maven).

Almost all of them have to be built with a without_maven switch for 
bootstrapping.  Interestingly, they still need some maven-related packages.

  maven2-bootstrap from jpackage 5 has 23 direct build requires, but

I had a maven 2.0.4 around and I was able to build the 2.0.7 
maven2-bootstrap without too much fuzz.

My problems started when I got into building the dependencies for the 
full maven, even with the without_maven switches.  The interdependencies 
on the _NEW_ versions are insane.  It has been 10 days already and I 
haven't yet build maven 2.0.7 in full.

When I get it to build, I will post here the list of packages I had to 
build or upgrade (from the 2.0.4 set).
