I got the View Results Tree Listener to show the query and it's results
but I had to turn on 'Save as XML'.  That should make it easier to
figure out what's going on in the future.

What was the log message? If it's misleading, perhaps it can be fixed.

what are you saying here?
did it run or not?

The View Results Tree Listener should show the query in the Request
panel.
