Summary: jedit 4.3pre9 hangs at startup (init killring)

Initial Comment:
I am currently using jedit 4.3pre9 on a windows xp machine, jdk 1.5.0_11 installed.

when I am trying to start up jedit, system always hangs at the "init killring" \
sequence.

I use the following startup-parameters in order to start-up jedit:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_11\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms64M -Xmx512M -jar \
"c:\jed\jedit.jar" -reuseview

besides, it is very interesting that javaw.exe does not run mor than 389 megs of ram, \
even if m more is available.

CPU-Usage goes up to 75%, and than remains at 0%.

Do you have any Idea why this is the case?

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards

Kai-Kristian Kloes.

Has the problem been solved by the suggestions below?
If not, please try to run without "-reuseview" and attach the new
activity.log file. Without "-reuseview" the log file should provide
valuable information for handling the problem.
Thanks.

Possibly, because jEdit tries to open all the previously-opened files
during startup.
I'd suggest removing the "-Xms64M" option from the command-line, or
removing these files from startup, by editing the file named
"perspective.xml" under the ".jedit" directory (usually C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\.jedit\perspective.xml), e.g. in Notepad.
In that file, you'll XML elements for the files that were previously
opened, so you can delete those that specify very large files.

Alternatively, you can move this "perspective.xml" file to another
directory, then run jEdit and modify it. Then move it back to place and
restart jEdit.

Thanks for your reply:
I have replaced javaw.exe by java.exe, and now the errormessage is:
Exception in Thread main:
Java.lang.OutofMemoryError: Java heap space.

Question: I previousely have opened very large files. could this be a
source for problems?

Thanks a lot in advance

Kind Regards

I recommend that you do the following to address the issue:
1. Run jEdit without the "-reuseview" parameter. If it hangs, it might
provide more valuable information in the activity.log file. If not, we then
know it's a problem in '-reuseview'.
2. Run it inside a Command Prompt with "java.exe" instead of "javaw.exe".
This has the advantage that Java exceptions will be displayed in the
Command Prompt window, that might otherwise be lost.

Hi,

I have checked there is no local firewall installed and activated.

Just to make sure - do you have a local firewall installed that might be
blocking the jedit server?

Can you attach the activity logfile?
It should be located somewhere in the .jedit folder:
c:\documents and settings\<username>\.jedit\activity.log
