Summary: Remote Desktop and computer with two screens.

Initial Comment:
I have a Windows computer with two screens. I log on
the computer via Windows remote desktop and try to open
JEdit. JEdit opens, but is the main window is
invisible. Probably it is opened outside the visible
area of the remote desktop. When I choose maximise on
the JEdit icon in the task pane, the JEdit window
appears.

Yes, right, the problem also occurs with other programs like Firefox. But
I believe not with all programs. I will have to check this again.

If I understood You correctly, You are viewing a wide desktop of a remote
box (i.e. resolution 2560x1024) on a local computer with a smaller desktop
(i.e. resolution 1280x1024).

Seems like You should have similar issues with other programs, because
this is not related to jEdit very much?

desktop from another computer ?
