many thanks - that was it
  
had to do a bit of clean up cos i'd gone to tools CR2,
  
so ended up rebuilding and doing bit at time. 
when i add the groovy support AND check the j2ee module dependencies and select the \
groovy library (had to restart as the server seemed to go into loop)   and it all \
seems to work .  
fabulous, I can now now move on to being a groovy seam developer!
  
hugely appreciated - the groovy capabilities i've been trying out look very \
interesting - its a good addition for java based projects.
