oh yes, that's a known bug with beta4 release.
It is now fixed, but you would need to use a snapshot to get it.
Alternatively, you can hack the scripts to add the jar to the classpath, 
or maybe try to 'export CLASSPATH=/path/to/mysql.jar' before launching 
james.
