Hi.
I've been trying to get some clients running with jacorb 2.3 (to take
advantage of a recent bug fix), and I've run into a stumbling block on some
linux machines whose default locales are set to en_US.UTF-8. The client
will connect to the server, but when it tries to access any methods off a
returned object, it just sits and then times out. On the machines that use
POSIX, C, and en_US (no utf), the TCS is detected as iso8859-1 and there
are no timeouts. I've tried to set the jacorb.native_char_codeset property
to ISO8859_1 in both a props file and as a JVM argument, but neither did any
good. The only way that I have managed to get these clients to work on the
UTF-defaulted machines is to temporarily change the locale environment
variables to something that isn't UTF-8.
Is the native_char_codeset property supposed to take care of situations like
this? If it is, am I using it wrong, or is it broken? If it isn't, is
there some way other than monkeying with the environment?
Thanks,
Phil
