Hey folks,

I'm trying to bring up the JabberD quickstart bundle (basically a pre-built
copy of jabberd and a setup.sh which builds a config file) on

   RedHat 7.2
   Kernel 2.4.7-10
   gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-98)

The JabberD Quickstart is

   Version: 0.1
   Date: 2003-01-24

When I execute it it gives:

./jabberd: /lib/i686/libc.so.6: version 'GCC_3.0' not found (required by
./jabberd)

I've tried to track down an RPM for a GCC 3.0 version of libc, but no luck.
Even if I did find one, there will be doubts about it's suitability.

So, I've got a few options:

*) Find a built libc and install on RH7.2. Will this mess up other programs?

*) download Jabber source and build for my gcc 2.96

*) install gcc 3 - will that screw up life since I'm stuck at RH7.2 (see
below)?

*) upgrade to RH7.3 or 8.0 and hope gcc 3 is used there.

the last option is not really an option since we must use RH7.2 for reasons
of compatibility with our important devel. software. 7.3 is probably
achievable but I wonder if it's relevant anyway.

So, folks, what's the best tack for getting a functioning jabberd on my
machine?

Thanks In Advance
