Please provide your settings.xml, maybe it's a problem with your resolver 
patterns.

And looking in mvnrepository, it says it depends on all this other stuff
that is not being downloaded.  Also, there is no javadoc/source files
downloaded either.

any ideas why it doesn't just download the whole dependency tree so I
don't have to add 50 lines and reverse engineer stuff?
